The Holidays
Hey Zachary, by now I am sure your plans for the holidays are well underway. Not to mention you will be turning 17 this year! That could mean driving, a part-time job and lots of other exciting events. It is hard to believe it has been almost 5 years without you in my life and me in yours. I wonder 'do you talk about me to your friends?, do you ever wonder what your brother is doing with his life?, do you ever think about Nana and Granddad and how much they miss you?' I can't imagine what it feels like to have family members that you just don't ever see or talk to. I still communicate with all my cousins, aunts and uncles in England even though they are thousands of miles away. I miss you so much and at this time of year it is even harder to exist without you in my life. Your brother and I have not been in the Christmas spirit since you left but this year we are managing to muster some up and find the joy in the family we still have in our lives. After all, that is what Christmas is supposed to be about......being thankful for all of the people in your life that mean so much to you and hoping they will all be around for a long time. You never know what tomorrow will bring Zach and I hope that soon you will realize, you can't go back for do-overs. That time is lost forever and when family is gone, you cannot bring them back.
On a more happy note, I couldn't be prouder of Cody. He has registered for school and this time I believe he is really committed. While shopping at Safeway, one of his managers told me how impressed they are with Cody's work in his new position. Her words were 'He is really rocking it, and works non-stop from the moment he gets in to the moment he leaves.' He has also been going to church services and is really trying to put his life on a positive and virtuous path. I am just sorry you are not here to see how much he has grown and what a wonderful human being he has turned out to be. I love him and you with all of my heart and am very proud of you both.
I will always ask that you give us a chance out here and respond to one of my requests soon. Life is short Zach and you never know what the future holds. I would drop everything to fly back there and see you the moment you request it. Please know that I think of you everyday and hope that your life is going well.
Merry Christmas,
Love always,
Mom
