Desolation Wilderness 2015
Hey Zach, well this summer marked our fifth trek up to 8500 feet and backpacking in the wilderness. You probably can’t picture me doing anything like that but it’s the beauty and sereneness that keeps me coming back. Every time it seems our experience is just a little different. We were in a new spot this year and did a lot more swimming, not that the water was any warmer, lol. Jeff and I went with Auntie Kim and Uncle Gregg and had a sketchy overnight at a Motel Six the night before the hike. Won’t be staying there again. We drove most of the way up after Granddad’s 80th birthday and a toast to Nana andGranddad’s 60th wedding anniversary so we would not have to get up too early for the big hike. The party went really well. It was up at Nana’s and only a few close friends were included. Uncle Gregg and I made them a slide show of pictures throughout their life accompanied by some meaningful songs and quotes. It was pretty awesome and had everyone misty.
Back to the backpacking trip.……The weather was very strange, thunder and lightning every day but warm like Hawaii so we had a few ‘shows’ to watch. Luckily the nights were clear to see all the millions of stars you can’t see down in the bay area. Some other friends of ours came up for the 2nd and third nights and they brought their 4 and 6-yearolds with them who were real troupers. The boys fished and a couple small ones were caught and cooked up for dinner one night. Lots of laughs sitting around afterwards with our headlamps shining-campfires are not allowed due to the elevation and protection of the area. We will be going again next year as we can’t get enough. Guess I am not such an indoorgirl after all. Anyway, I hope you are having a wonderful summer. I will drop a note later in the month.
Love,
Mom
